Intake Seasons and Application Timelines

There are two intake seasons for universities in Italy, Students can apply for a university in Italy either for the fall or spring intake.

If you want to enroll for the fall intake (September), the application process begins as early as May or June.

Students are required to start appearing for common entrance exams such as GRE and GMAT. Language proficiency tests for both English and Italian are essential if you want to apply for a student university.

If you want to enroll for the winter intake (February), the application process begins in October and November.

This in no way is concrete timing as application processes and deadlines depend on the university or program that you have decided on.

Process of Studying in Italy from Nepal

Here is a list of things you’ll have to prepare if you want to apply for a university in Italy.

  2. Passport size photographs
  3. Application Form
  4. Transcripts (Academic sheets including merits)
  5. Curriculum Vitae
  6. Statement of Purpose (SoP)
  7. Letter of Recommendation
  8. Language Proficiency Scores (Italian and English)
  9. Official SAT/ACT scores

Once your application is accepted, the next step is to apply for a student visa.

A thing to note: Processing time is a major thing to consider when applying for a student visa. A student visa usually takes between 2-4 weeks to process. It depends on the workload of the embassy too. Just make sure your application has no errors so that you save time when applying.

Things Required for a Student Visa

If you are a student planning to apply for a student visa in Italy, you will need to provide several documents as part of your application. These may include:

Cost of Living in Italy

The monthly expenditure for a student varies from city to city. If a student is wise with their money, a month in Italy should cost them between 900-1000 Euros.

This will cover your accommodation, groceries, eating out, health insurance, transportation, and probably some of your extra shopping.

Again, your expenditure varies on your lifestyle and the place you decide to study in. Cities such as Milan are more on the expensive side. It’s important to plan and budget your expenditure, especially as an international student.

How much of your university fees are exempted depends on the type of scholarship you receive. Some scholarships are full rides, covering entire tuition fees and miscellaneous while some are partial.

If students are capable enough, they can get up to 100% scholarships and free accommodation from the university.

Working Opportunities

Requirements for working part-time as an international student are similar all over the world. While the amount of money you are paid depends on the place or country you are in, international students can work a max of 20 hours a week. This is changed to 40 hours a week during longer holiday breaks. The minimum wage for Italy is around 10-11 Euros.

Students can find themselves working for restaurants, or as interns for universities, retail, freelance, etc. However, It’s necessary to have the required permits and authorization from the Italian government to work part-time as an international student.  

Student Lifestyle

Italy is a culture-rich country with a unique lifestyle. Nepalese students could face some culture shock on how Italians live their lives. However, it isn’t all that difficult to adapt to. 

You’ll find more time to socialize while you’re in Italy. Students can find time for socializing, studying, and working at the same time. Socialization here takes place over long meals and coffee breaks. It’s a laid-back country with plenty of things to do during your stay here. 

Italy is known in the world for its fashion industry too. You shouldn’t be surprised to see people in all kinds of fashionable dresses and whatnot. Remember to pack your wardrobe with street casuals, that look approachable and presentable.
